Groups for Teens

A Safe Place for Teens to Grieve and be Understood

Supporting a grieving teen can feel overwhelming. Many teens struggle to express their feelings at home, even when they deeply need support. CBC teen groups provide a trusted space where adolescents can process grief alongside peers, while caregivers gain peace of mind knowing their teen is supported by professionals.

Parents and caregivers are not expected to "fix" their teen’s grief. Our role is to walk alongside your family and normalize the grief experience.

Who Our Teen Groups Are For

Our teen grief support groups are open to middle school and high school students who have experienced the loss of a loved one—whether the death was recent or occurred years ago. There is no “right timeline” for grief, and teens are welcome to join whenever they feel ready.

Teens may be grieving the loss of:

  • A parent, caregiver, sibling, or other family member
  • A close friend or loved one
  • A loved one lost due to illness, accident, suicide, or homicide

Groups are:

  • Free of charge
  • Open-ended (teens decide how long they participate)
  • Non-denominational, culturally responsive, and inclusive of all identities

What Teens Can Expect

Our teen groups focus on connection, expression, and healing—not pressure to “talk before they’re ready.” Teens are encouraged to participate at their own pace.

Each group is:

  • Peer-based, allowing teens to connect with others their age
  • Co-facilitated by licensed mental health professionals and trained volunteers
  • Structured to balance conversation with creative and reflective activities

Activities may include:

  • Guided group discussions
  • Art and music-based expression
  • Mindfulness and grounding exercises
  • Remembrance activities, including candle-lighting ceremonies

Groups meet weekly in the evenings, year-round, and are currently offered via Zoom, making participation accessible and consistent.

Registration & Getting Started

Before joining a group, teens and caregivers attend a brief orientation to help us ensure the best group fit and to explain what to expect.

Registration is required and available year-round.
