Free peer support groups are open-ended. Participants may join groups at any time during the year after attending an Orientation. Because grief is unique to each individual, children and their families decide their length of participation at the CBC.
Orientations are held monthly for families considering participation, and for other interested persons looking to learn about the Center. To register for an Orientation, call 305-668-4902.
Peer Support Groups are open to children (age 5-18) who have lost a parent, sibling, grandparent, relative, or friend as a result of illness, accident, suicide, or homicide. Losses can be recent or in years past. The CBC offers:
- Elementary School Groups (Younger: kindergarten - 2nd grade; Older: 3rd - 5th grade)
- Middle School Groups
- High School Groups
The Children’s Bereavement Center provides our Free grief support groups at four locations in Dade and Broward.
Miami Christian School
Miami Country Day School
NOVA Mailman Segal Center
The CBC also offers support groups for adults who play a significant role in a child's life and adults with personal loss. The CBC offers:
- Parent/Caregiver support groups (grieving the loss of a child, spouse, friend or relative) in English and Spanish (CBC en español).
We additionally have a Young Adult (18+) Group called Lift From Loss that runs on Tuesdays at the University of Miami St. Bede Episcopal Chapel, and an adult group that runs on Wednesdays at Temple Beth Sholom in Miami Beach and on Thursdays at Temple Judea in Miami.
There is no fee for participation.
The Children's Bereavement Center Peer Support Groups are dedicated to providing support, education, and resources for children, teens, young adults and their families.
Ransom Everglades, Miami Christian School, Miami Country Day School, NOVA Southeastern University, UM St. Bede Episcopal Chapel, Temple Beth Sholom, and Temple Judea generously donate rooms for our groups.
CBC Hurricane/Tropical Storm Policy Reminder: During Hurricane season or major weather events, CBC Groups follow the public schools' hurricane policy. If public schools are closed and/or your group location is closed, the CBC is also closed.
In the event of a local tropical system this season, we hope everybody fares well and remains safe.
