Lift From Loss Training Institute

As the community resource for loss of life and bereavement support, the CBC developed the Lift From Loss Training Institute to provide customized education and consultation services for professionals at hospitals, hospices, healthcare agencies, and schools that result in enhanced staff skills and resources, and better services to their patient populations, students, and communities served.

Grief and Bereavement issues are two-fold, affecting both the professionals who provide care and the patient families they serve.   Hospital and agency-based professionals must be aware of the impact that grief has on their patients, patient families, and themselves.  Stress resulting from Grief and Bereavement issues may be addressed through skill development and knowledge building, as well as development of resources and support services for those in need.  The CBC is able to design training programs, and loss protocols, that enhance the continuum of care and help to address the needs of medical professionals, interns, clinicians, educators, staff, and the families they serve.

Training Opportunities

The CBC Training Institute provides a variety of services and trainings for professionals/organizations helping bereaved families. Trainings vary in length depending on the agencies needs but typically span 1-3 hours. The following are just a few of the topics covered throughout our trainings:

  • Basic principles for responding to children/families dealing with loss (Communication/support)
  • Developmental Issues and Bereavement (Child vs. Adult Grief Response)
  • Family System Changes (Post Loss)
  • Do’s and Don’ts for professionals
  • Staff Care Issues (Vicarious trauma and Caregiver burnout)

CBC trainings focus on individual/staff ability to identify ways to support those who have experienced loss.  Upon the completion of these trainings you and your organization’s staff will be better equipped to handle the grief and bereavement needs of your clients/families.  Those participating in training will become more able to identify their own grief responses and to explore how bereavement care is impacted by professional boundaries. Provision of these trainings will result in enhanced skills and resources, which in turn provide better and richer services to the population and communities you serve.
